The Janome Horizon MC8200QCP Sewing Machine is aimed both at the quilter, and the crafter. In fact it’s for anyone looking for more space to work with. A nice long arm with plenty of room for your work. And a good range of stitches and features. It’s easy to use and we are always here to help you.

With a 280mm (11”) arm space right of the needle and a total arm length of 440mm ( 17” ), this machine is ideal for bigger projects and yet is equally suited to precision sewing. And with a sewing speed of up to 1,000 stitches per minute it really is powerful. It has a built-in AcuFeed system for precise fabric handling and an easy change needle plate to enhance straight stitch performance. The 9mm stitch width gives added creative options whilst the host of special computerised features makes it so easy to use.

Janome Horizon MC8200QCP Sewing Machine Review

Here’s a quick review of some of the main features of the Janome MC8200QCP

Computerised Sewing Machine

The Janome MC8200QCP is a modern electronic sewing machine. It benefits from a number of electronic features. They are all designed to enhance your enjoyment, and functionality. Also, a word on reliability here. The electronics are old, reliable and robust. They will not fail five minutes after you buy the machine. If they did, Steve and I wouldn’t sell this model.

In many peoples mind, a sewing machine is the treadle machine they learnt to sew on fifty odd years ago. And adding a bulb, a switch, a control screen is scary magic. But all these features can be found in washing machines, tumble dryers and televisions.

In the top three brands of sewing machines – Bernina, Brother and Janome – the electrics are sound. Far more likely to cause problems are the use of poor thread and cheap needles. Incorrect threading is another. In other words, user error, not electronics.

Horizontal Full Rotary Hook

The hook, or shuttle, is one of the most important parts of a sewing machine. It plays a major role in the quality of stitching. And the Janome Horizon MC8200QCP Sewing Machine has a well made hook. It is also very tough and durable. Exactly what you need on a quilting machine, or one used for crafts and bag making.

Touch Panel LCD

The Touch Panel LCD on the Janome MC8200QCP is straightforward, and easy to use. The screen is where you choose the stitch type, length and width. And you don’t need a science degree to use it.

Speed Control Slider

The speed control slider has become commonplace on most modern sewing machines. The Janome MC8200QCP is no exception. This small feature is one of the most important. It can reduce the sewing speed to a crawl, without reducing the power. So you can sew thick fabrics, and tricky projects, at a speed that suits you.

Janome Horizon MC8200QCP Sewing Machine Superior Feed System (SFS) – 7 Piece Feed Dogs

Another improvement, is the way larger feed dogs feed the fabric so well. And the Memorycraft 8200QCP has a seven piece feed dog. This will feed your fabrics, thick, thin, and awkward, so very well. Another big plus for the quilter and crafter, alike.

Adjustable foot pressure

When I first started work for Dad as a ‘Saturday Boy’ in 1976, I was around 14. Dad still had his old shop on Regent Road, in Salford. I miss that shop. I miss that old high street. But most of all – I miss Dad…

Anyway. In those days nearly every sewing machine had a ‘Patchomatic’. This was a spring loaded device that adjusted the pressure on the presser foot. (Berninas were the exception).

This 8200QCP has a similar device. You can use it to increase or decrease the pressure on the foot – and therefore, on the fabric. Again, this is a very useful feature for the quilter. Sewing through a thick sandwich of cotton and wadding sometimes requires an adjustment of pressure. Similarly, when sewing through leathers or vinyls etc. The Adjustable Foot Pressure can be really handy.

Automatic Thread Cutter (Scissors Button)

You press this button at the end of your seam, and it cuts the threads. Sounds great, and it works really well. Press the button – it cuts the threads…

Built-in Acufeed System

Janomes Acufeed System is a bit like a walking foot. Attach it and it feeds the top layer of fabric. So the quilter will find this feature very handy. The wadding laid between the top and bottom layers of fabric is spongy and soft. This creates a lag on the top layer. This in turn can create a pull, or a distortion. Eventually, on longer pieces, your quilt may begin to turn up, and curl at the end.

The Acufeed feeds the top layer of fabric and so helps to eliminate this distortion. It works well with a range of fabrics including knits, silks and any ‘long in length’ project.

Your Next Step

So I hope this little round up gives you a bit more insight into the Janome Horizon MC8200QCP Sewing Machine. It’s a good quality and well made machine. One that will last for years to come.
